While I was browsing the DVD shop I noticed the Warp label on the cover of this film. Since I am a fan of the music that is brought out on the Warp label I decided to give this movie a chance.
After watching it, I was overwhelmed. Director Shane Meadows (who, I had discovered, also directed This is England) did a stunning job. There's a constant tension that's almost toutchable. And there's a climax full of (christian) symbolism, that makes you feel pretty upset and makes you think at the same time. When a movie does such things to me I must Rate it 10 out of 10. The acting is also brilliant.
One of the best movies ever!

After watching this movie I wanted to see it again, and again. It was like I wanted to be underwater again. Where everything is colourfull. There is a sense of peace and happiness. Also brotherhood amongst the people I'm with.
This film is pretty intoxicating.
The shots are beautifull. Wes Anderson takes time to portrait the environment and the characters. The characters are moving and funny. Bill Murray did a great job as Steve Zissou. He fits the character perfectly.
And it makes me feel good.
It makes me want to put on a red little hat and dive, deep. -
I saw this movie many times. But the time I saw it on magic mushrooms I will never forget. In the last scene of the movie I was apearing to be in the flooded hotelroom with Johnny Depp. I could see the water all around me, sitting on the bench.
It was crazy.
This movie is crazy.
And I am crazy about this movie.
Terry Gilliam is one of my favourite directors. He can create a new world on the screen. Like you are in someone else's mind. I like that a lot about films.
Johnny Depp is a miraculous Raoul Duke. An autobiographical character of the writer of the book Hunter S. Thompson.
Seeing it not under influence made me realise the story. It is not just about taking drugs. It shows the zeitgeist of the 70's. And I don't think things change a lot. In this time I can also relate to what Hunter S. Thompson is saying.
I especially like 'the wave speech' in the final scene of the movie.
This is a 10/10 for me. -
Intense is the right word to describe this movie. The characters are full of emotion. And you can feel that emotion, altough the characters are quite fictitious. That offcourse has everything to do with the fact that real people act in this movie, but still they look like characters from a graphic novel. Frank Miller created Sin City that way.
The black and white with occasional collering works realy well.
I am a big Robert Rodriquez fan. His movies always have all the ingrediënts of top entertainment:
-violence
-sex
-horror
-humour
Hopefully the sequel will be as intense as the first part. -
I listen to the music of Plaid a lot. I've got the soundtrack of Heavens Door, the second film by director Michael Arias. Wich is one of the best works of Plaid. The soundtrack of Tekkon kinkreet however I couldn't get my hands on. Instead I just put on the dvd and it's almost like watching a long Plaid video.
Offcourse this is a movie. But the plot of this film is not quite why I like it so much. It is the music, combinded with stunning artwork. Every shot out of this movie is like a painting you can look at for quite some time. The details are just beautyfull.
The characters are a bit of opposites. One is tough and smart. the other is quite naive and soft. They need each other but also endanger each other. This symbolism realy spoke to me. All and all I realy love this film.
