The son of a wild she-wolf and a male pet dog, Balto is of mixed breed and therefore ridiculed by dogs and shunned by humans in his hometown of Nome in Alaska. His status as an outcast frequently causes him to feel lonely and downcast, as well as ashamed of his wolf heritage.
