Queen Marlena rules the planet of Eternia alongside her husband, King Randor. Originally from the planet Earth, Queen Marlena was a U.S. astronaut whose spaceship crash-landed on the planet of Eternia. After marrying King Randor, Queen Marlena gave birth to twins - Adam and Adora. Her daughter Adora was kidnapped by the evil villains Hordak and Skeletor. It was not until years later, that Queen Marlena and King Randor were reunited with Adora (as an adult).
