Bound (1996)

Gangster movie or lesbian love story? — Written by eedeed on 04.08.2009

Bound is the directing début made by Andy and Larry Wachowski. It is the movie before the Matrix-trilogy. It’s obvious that the brothers have already experimented with camera positions and they laid the basics for, their soon to become famous, bullet-time-technique. That alone makes the movie very worth seeing.

Bound starts off as an erotic thriller, but in time develops into a gangster movie, with all the suspense and bloodiness that comes with it.
The two main characters in the movie are butch Corky and femme Violet. They fall in love and intend to steal 2 million dollars from the mafia. They have a ‘foolproof’ plan, which, obviously isn’t as foolproof as they would have liked.

Main theme in the movie is trust. The question is always, who betrays who. Dialogues are never dull, with lots of great one-liners like: “When you get tired of Cagney and Lacey, find me”. I especially liked Joe Pantoliano as mobster Ceasar.
If you haven’t seen this film, you should. It has beautiful shots, is funny and thrilling, I can’t seem to find anything wrong with it ;-).
