Pink Flamingos is a true punk movie. All conventions of film are thrown out the window. John Waters stops at nothing to shock and thrill his audience. Divine delivers an iconic performance, creating a new generation of freaks and drag queens. The spirit of this movie is anarchy. This is not a movie that follows the rules, and it takes its viewers along for the ride, giving them a taste of rebellion. Trashy and entertaining, Pink Flamingos is Waters's masterpiece. Many will not be able to stomach a movie like this, but for extreme viewers, this movie is a trip you will never forget. At no point in the film do those on screen give a "wink" to the camera. It seems that all the actors and crew members treated the film with a dedicated seriousness. This brings a documentary-feel to the movie. It is this level of dedication that brings Pink Flamingos head and shoulders above other "midnight movies". There is no faking it in Pink Flamingos; everything is real and in your face. It leaves you with a raw and dirty taste in your mouth.
