The Brothers Grimm (2005)

Fantastic Brothers — Written by deleted user on 06.08.2010

Terry Gilliam is known for his fantasy, fairy tale, surrealistic humour, huge imagination and he is famous for his ability to surprise the audience. One of the creators of Monty Python after the success of his previous films decided to enliven the Grimm brothers' characters.

The action takes place during Napoleonic wars in the area of Germany occupied by the French. The Grimm brothers, Wilhelm and Jacob travel from village to village and convince people that their place is under devil's and other creatures' occupation. Therefore, the dwellers of the village need to be released and saved by the brothers for an unreasonable price. Soon the French general Delatombe discovers the whole truth and they are arrested. Instead of being sentenced the brothers' mission becomes to explain a mysterious disappearance of children in a nearby Marbaden village. The Grimms assume that the children are kidnapped by similar criminals but the whole affair gets complicated.
The film director managed to join numerous stories into one. He added humorous elements which allows the audience to have much fun.

The actors played very well. The performer of Cavaldi's role needs appreciation. The actor has played episodes which did not allow him to show the whole talent. Obviously William presumed that he would be a perfect match for the role of grotesque, a bit sadistic Italian. We can also admire Hollywood stars, for instance Matt Damon and one of the most beautiful actresses Monica Bellucci.

The film is a perfect choice for those who like fantasy and fairy tale world. The director seduces the audience interlacing humour, fear but also the famous and popular the Grimms' characters. We recommend the film for the young and the older ones.
