Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)

Beauty and the Zombie 2 — Written by deleted user on 06.08.2010

The first part of Resident Evil earned in the whole world more than 100 mln dollars. It is a fantastic result taking into account the budget of 32 mln dollars. That is why one might have expected to have a fast continuation of the film, especially that the ending suggested one (Alice wakes up in an empty hospital and when she leaves it she sees demolished Racoon City). The screenplay was prepared by Paul W.S. Anderson and the film was directed by making his debut Alexander Witt.

The plot of the second part is simple. The virus changing the people into zombies is now out of the Racoon City and it devastates the region. Alice (Milla Jovovich) who as a result of the experiment became superhuman, Jill Valentina a member of S.T.A.R.S. group (Sienna Guillory) and those who survived try to oppose the dead and the mutant Nemesis. They try to leave the city. The only chance to do it is to find Doctor Charles Ashford's daughter. Doctor invented the virus "T" which originated the whole affair.

The film definitely lacks the elements of horror. This element should dominate here, unfortunately it is not enough of it. We observe mostly the prolonged story which is offered by the director. The special effects are very good and they make the film attractive. Nothing bad can be said about the actors: Milla played very well her character, just like before. Sienna fantastically took on the role of Jill who is known to the audience from the game. The film lacks atmosphere which was present in the first part. Again the film is a must for all the fans of the "Resident Evil" game. The enthusiasts of the action SF and horror cinema will like it as well. The others may forget about the film as they lose nothing
