Waterworld (1995)

Waterworld: an amazing journey — Written by Kopainkopine on 20.06.2010

I really don't understand why people dislike Waterworld. Great actors (Kevin Costner, Dennis Hopper), an endless landscape of water, a good music... and of course an interesting story.

The story might be our future. Imagine a huge meltdown. The water will cover the Earth. No shelter, no law. A bloody mess in fact! Ryan Reynold proposes his own vision of what we can become. In Waterworld, people can evolve (like a fish, breathe underwater), gather as an army or as a communauty. Because of the human madness, some humans want to keep the power (the oil and the weapons) to scare and to rob the others.

In this way, people hope to find Dryland, the only livable place (with forests, animals...). Where can we find the map? On the back of a children, the metaphor of innocence.

I really enjoy this movie because I found this vision very realistic. I admit that the characters are a little "cliché", the good mutant, the kind little girl versus the bad bald boy, but it shows what humans are capable to do in critical situations. It is a message of hope: we must believe in myths and never give up.
