Mike Enslin, a mediocre author who specializes in the paranormal receives a postcard out of the blue, warning him not to stay in Dolphin Hotel's room 1408. Desperate for a good story he travels there and encounters something that would make him question everything he used to believe in.
Yet another Steven King adaptation that has the potential to set a standard, but merely achieves predictable thrills and some visual necessities.
It could have been a must-see movie, yet it is let down by its focus on the side story. The acting by everyone involved is superb, which does a lot for the movie's reception. However, the main story, which started off rather well, looses itself in too many ventures into the protagonist's past. Most of the scary scenes are predictable and the viewer's hope for an all revealing twist is shattered by a surprisingly boring climax, which will leave most people with a sense of disappointment of what could have been a movie, that gave new meaning to the word "horror".
If you are easily scared, watch it! If not, don't bother.
