London is terrorised by a Jack the Ripper-style murderer in Hitchcock's first suspense thriller, acclaimed as 'the finest British production ever made' by the Bioscope journal on its release. Hitchcock cannily cast matinee idol Ivor Novello in the title role and challenged his audience to think the worst of him.

'The Lodger' is a restoration by the BFI National Archive in association with ITV Studios Global Entertainment, Network Releasing and Park Circus Films. Principal funding provided by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, The Film Foundation, and Simon W Hessel.
