Architect Alex Wyler moves into a glass house on the edge of Lake Michigan. Inside the mailbox, he found a note left for her by Dr. Kate Forster previous tenant of the premises, asking him to forward his mail. When Alex replied the young woman is stunned to realize that he actually lives in 2004, and not, as she, in 2006. Throughout their correspondence, the two successive occupants of the house on the lake come to love and one another. However, to meet, Alex must take steps to see Kate in his own time.
