The film begins with a stormy night in a grave yard where three ravenous, hooded cats attack the enigmatic Puss, Pero. He fights off the bandits and begins his journey, soon meet young Pierre, a poor, neglected miller's son who is ousted from his home. The two quickly become good friends and set off together across the countryside.
