Immediately after the World War II, the young peasant Mara fell in love with Bube, a young ex-partisan who had to hide because he was involved in political murder. Far from the man she loves, Mara finds a job and knows Stefano, a good guy who proposes to marry him. She is going to accept when she receives the news that Bube has been arrested.
