The young Dora arrives in Parma, at the home of a friend of his mother, who died when she was just a child. Through flashbacks the film describes the disappointing sentimental experiences of the girl. A bitter comedy of deracination, reflecting the sudden urbanization of Italy during the industrial boom years of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
