In the Second World War, Penny and Baby, two little Tuscan sisters, are orphaned by both parents. The two are taken into custody by their German uncle Wilhelm Einstein (cousin of the scientist Albert). The film is based on the autobiographical novel by director Lorenza Mazzetti, published in 1961.
