Luella "Lu" Delano is the principal witness in a Las Vegas trial against Gaetano, the head of a Chicago crime family. She escaped from protective police custody after a failed attempt on her life, which did kill her husband Michael. Lu is then offered refuge by her friends Brian and Pam O'Hara.
