When newspaper reporter Ann Mitchell is fired, she prints in her last article the fake letter of a "John Doe" who threatens to commit suicide to protest againt the social problems in the United States. The publics reaction to this letter forces the newspaper to rehire Mitchell and to hire a guy to play the fictional "John Doe" as well.
