An overview of Richard Sharpe's career, from being raised in the ranks, to the battle at Waterloo, as depicted by fellow rifleman, Cooper.

Sharpe is framed as the thief who stole Napoleon's gold, and he must clear his name to avoid execution. Meanwhile, Jane - urged on by a friend - makes some questionable choices.

General Wellesley sends Major Hogan, Sharpe, the chosen men and the South Essex Regiment to destroy a bridge. Sharpe is immediately in conflict with two junior officers of the South Essex and their incompetent commander.

Sharpe is asked by the governor to perform one last task while in India. He is to escort a Frenchwoman to her fiancée at an outpost. Sharpe agrees, little knowing he is walking into a rebellion with the instigators quite close to home.

Spain, 1812. The Duke of Wellington plans to lay siege to Badajoz. A murderous figure from Sharpe's past uses a beautiful woman to revenge himself on Sharpe, now the father of her child. Sharpe has reason to be happy, he holds his daughter for the first time and is given command of the Light Company again, together with his captaincy.
