[WTM3] Alpha beta version: feedbacks & bug reports
That's actually working as intended, it's not a bug.
Shots of the Day (and of the Month/Year) are protected: once a shot has won an award, the community delete-vote no longer applies to it. Only moderators can remove an award-winning shot, and only if there's a genuine problem with it (wrong movie, broken metadata, etc.).
So if you spot something wrong with a SotD, just flag it or ping a mod and we'll take a look.
-Tried posting a forum reply with an attached image, but the image didn't appear. Tried with Firefox and Chrome.
-Don't know if this is a bug or intentional, but if I post a spoiler comment on a shot I haven't solved, I can't see my own comment, only the "Solve this shot to see this comment." text.
It works :)
Accepting/adding you (TestingZ) as a friend gives me the message "Could not request friendship: Friend has already been taken".
Added another user as a friend (tried with MisterZob and greyhound) gave me the Error 500 page. But visiting their profiles after, shows the friend request as pending.
EDIT 04-06 14:35: Working now :)
Something I don't understand about The Criterion Collection curated list (note: I didn't check other lists yet):
It says the list contains 4866 films. That's way more than it should.
And actually, if you browse the whole list, it seems to stop at 1629 (why is the right number, AFAIK): https://beta.whatthemovie.com/curated/57-the-criterion-collection?filter=unwatched&page=23
@kinoute , congratulations on the successful go-live!
Having read through your official announcement, I was wondering how the difficulty level of a new snapshot is defined. At which time are the 2 (easy), 5 (medium) and 10 (hard) points attributed? Every snapshot starts out as a hard shot with just a few solvers, and only as the days/weeks progress will a snapshot reveal itself as easy, no? Does that means the points gained from a solved snapshot decline over time as more players solve it? Or do the early solvers just get the higher points?
@lezard
The flags are gone. Just try the title you guessed, in the language you know.
They had become problematic. They were often used to guess the solution, even though their sole purpose was to make it easier to enter the solution once it has been identified.
But you still can type in the French title even though the French flag isn't there.
What an amazing new version, thanks @kinoute for all the hard work !
I'm glad the uploaders are anonymous, I've been waiting for it for a long time.
Now I'm just disappointed with all the shots I used to resize (as many others did), it looks like they've lost a significant amount of quality...
Thank you to the WTM team for your work and this amazing new version.
A few feedbacks after my first few hours, most of them are things that I miss compared to the previous version :
- On the Home page, there no longer the overview of the user's own uploads. In the previous version we could see our own few last shots in two separate views, those in NS and those in FF. With only the most recent shot being displayed in both cases, and with left and right arrows to browse through them. I kind of miss this.
- Bug : On the calendar, clicking on the same date that is already highlighted (the one in red) does not redirect to the shots of that day (does not click the url), instead it just removes the red highlight, and the user has to click one more time to be redirected. Does not happen when clicking on another date.
- Bug : When viewing a FF shot, the Next and Prev buttons seem to be inverted. The Next buttons redirects to the previous shot and vice versa. Or rather, after more testing, it seems that the shots for a day are displayed top to bottom from newest to oldest, opposite from the previous version where the shots were displayed from oldest to newest. Not sure if this is intended but it is confusing after 13 years of habits. Note that it behaves the other way for NS shots.
- When viewing a shot on Desktop version (not mobile), the number of solves are not immediately visible. The user has to scroll down once to see it. I find that the number of solves is a significant clue to solve shots. A high solve count usually means a famous movie and so easier to solve. I think this information should be visible without having to scroll down, like it was the case in the previous version. Or maybe is it just happening depending on someone's computer or monitor size ?
- When typing to solve a shot, there is no longer the auto fill suggestions taken from past guesses. The user has to retype the full title of a movie instead of typing the first few letters and finding the full title in the auto fill suggestions in case it has already been typed in the past for other shots.
- When uploading a shot, there is no longer the possibilty to preview the shot in full size before confirming the upload.
- When browsing through the shots of a day and scrolling down to the bottom of the page, it would be nice to have the same buttons as at the top with Next and Prev to go to the next or previous day's shot, instead of having to scroll back up to access those buttons. To have those buttons both at the top and at the bottom. And maybe even the Calendar button too.
- I find the green flash when solving a shot annoying.
Suggestion for a feature that I have secretly beed wanting for a long time : A way to browse through My Favorite Shots with Next and Prev.
That's all for now, thanks again :)
Uploading a new shot take a very long time with the new "checking for duplicates" feature. On my computer it takes between 45 to 55 seconds with this check on the 3-4 shots I have tested with. The same slow speed both in Opera, Firefox and Chrome. Might just be a fault on my end though.
If this is the intended speed for this "check" perhaps editing the text that says "This usually takes a couple of seconds" should say "takes about a minute".
@ZomBeeBob This is on our side, I will have a look!
Thanks all for your early feedbacks, I will try to fix them in batch as soon as possible!!!
Nice new version.
A bug I found: I tried to edit a character ( here: https://whatthemovie.com/movie/robocop_2/character/2058099-cain/edit ) and add the actors name. Adding the name ( Tom Noonan ) and pressing "Save changes" results in a "500" error page.
sorry if any of this is mentioned before, my time here is now very limited
playing on desktop
I can't seem to vote with alt + number now
if I click the random button while solving feature films it goes to archive for the next shot
I lost my minion and supporter memorabilia
it would be nice to see the number of solves on a snapshot without scrolling down
thanks for the effort and all in all a great job with the new site,
hope it will reignite the players
Hello,
I'm glad to see some of the suggegstions/bugs were already added/fixed
One more here
- When a shot's score is available for all (after the next started), the rating displayed with the stars is our own vote for the shot. IMO, it was better before when the rating displayed was the overall rate of the shot
For this example, the rating of this shot is a little over 7 but my rating is 9. I think the stars should indicate the overall rating, and not 9
