In the second film, we learn that Peter and Julie did marry and settle down into adulthood, then divorced. Now they cope with the rebelliousness of their own 17-year-old daughter Isabelle and attempt to reconcile their faded ideals with their lives as suburban parents. The first film, Nobody Waved Good-bye, was heavily improvised to the point that it won a BAFTA Award for documentary in 1965. In keeping with that documentary conceit, the sequel was filmed twenty years on.
