Forman’s first feature is made up of two short stories. In the first, young musicians in rival brass bands skip an important concert to attend a motorcycle race. In the second, a young female pedicurist secretly attends a singing audition. Both stories whimsically illustrate the wish to transcend drab, authoritarian strictures.
