When my friend told me about this movie, I heard that it was a horror. When I watched it, I realized that this amazing and beautiful story about ghosts. This is not a classis horror for me. Horror is designed to frighten and scare, Kaidan is, for me, a movie which takes the viewer into the mysterious world of Japanese culture. Yes, there are moments when we are frightened, but the stories still are more fascinating than scary.
The film consists of four stories that share is just one thing - they are all stories of ghosts. And these are all common elements. Besides, every story has its heroes, each is maintained in a completely different style.
The first story is titled "Black hair". It tells of samurai, who, unable to endure poverty, leaves his wife and travels to the capital to seek his fortune there. He marries a woman from the aristocracy, achieves high social position. At the same time he realize that he was really happy with his first wife. So one day, he decides to return home ...
Second story, "The Woman in the Snow" is the story of a young man who gets in the middle of a snowstorm with the old man. Both shelter in an empty hut. Here, suddenly appears a mysterious woman in white. With frosty breath she kills the old man, but takes pity on a young man. Forgive him his life, but the young man must swear that he will never tell anybody what happened ...
The third story is "the Earless Hoichi. " It begins with memories of a great battle between two clans, the Genji and Heike. Most of the people of the Heike clan was killed, those who survived, had committed suicide by throwing themself into the sea. Many years later, in this place was built the temple, which serves the blind monk, Hoichi. One day the ghost of warrior comes to the monk...
This last story, "In a cup of tea. " It tells of samurai, who every day in a cup of tea sees a face of foreign man. Regardless of whether the warrior pours and pours tea again, or take a new cup the strange man always appears. One day a warrior decides to drink ...
In fact they are four different stories and it is very difficult to assess it as a whole. In fact, you should evaluate each of them separately. Each of them has its own climate, it is lit differently, focusing on something totally different. Each story is beautifully illustrated with well-chosen music, What can irritate, is according to me, a bit theatrical acting and the inequality of individual history.
Take for instance the two selected stories. My beloved second - beautiful, extremely graphic and the last one - almost poor and gray. And although the interesting stories are fascinating, it is easy to see such differences.
In the case of this film is difficult to write anything more without the risk of betraying the essential elements of the story. Therefore, this review is short, but it contains one important point - this movie is worth seeing, because it is an incredible tale for adults.
