[WTM3] Alpha beta version: feedbacks & bug reports
@austintower Nothing was removed, and your contest solves still count. That board ranks players by their number of first-solves, and this morning a maintenance job re-synced everyone's totals to match the real data. A few players (including you) had counts that had drifted a bit too high over the years, so they got corrected back down to the accurate number. You moved up to 3rd because the player above you had a bigger correction than you did. So it's all good, the number you see now is your true first-solve total.
@austintower Actually there was a mistake, after @Solhanne's shout on my profile, I looked again and my calculations were wrong. Now it should be like before, in WTM2.
Im just starting to get used to the new format. Its appealing to the eye but is it just me or people are getting really less talkative under the shots ? Beside I understand (kinda) the new way to rend anonymous the shots but I just find it a bit lame, not to be able to recognize the "touch" of some people or their habbits. Its getting a bit too impersonal, if I can say.
@Greymatter just you:
| Metric | 9 days before (wtm2, Jul 4–12) | 9 days after (wtm3, Jul 13–21) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shouts posted under shots | 82 | 121 | +48% |
| Distinct shouters | 15 | 27 | +80% |
| Distinct shots receiving shouts | 30 | 47 | +57% |
| New shots getting ≥1 shout | 5.0% (23/457) | 8.2% (43/527) | +64% |
@Greymatter I understand you, I feel the same. I don't think there's a big difference though between before and after the release of the new version despite the numbers above.
Many of the recent shouts had something to do with the new page. That will settle over time. It says 121 shouts posted under shots from Jul 13 til 21. If you now look at Feature Film shots within this timeframe the number goes down to 101 shouts (shouts on rejected shots are excluded I guess).
70 of those 101 shouts are Congrats on the SotD.
7 of the remaining 31 shouts are about errors or other issues with the new format.
5 of the remaining 24 shouts are RiP shouts (Sam Neill)
4 of the remaining 19 shouts are about darkness ('all dark is part of the shot' or similar)
2 of the remaining 15 shouts I can't tell because they're hidden due to spoiler
1 of the remaining 13 shouts is about a Netflix link as a source for the shot
And if you also wanna subtract lezard's 5 shouts on his AU's promoting the new page... then there are only SEVEN shouts left that are - in my view - actual personal significant random telling fun shouts. That is the actual number that should be looked at.
Everyone can decide for themselves what these numbers mean to them. It's maybe not "less talkative" now in comparison to the week before the big upgrade but definitely to good old times. Everyone should just take a look at the comment sections under those really old shots from back in the day and see what a great time people were having.
I just find it a bit lame, not to be able to recognize the "touch" of some people or their habbits. Its getting a bit too impersonal, if I can say.
I think exactly the opposite. You can't really say you're recognizing the uploader's style if all you have to do is look at their name. I think this could actually be another way for players to have fun trying to guess who posted what. Don't forget that you will find out the uploader's name, either sooner (daily quiz) or later (contests).
Also I think it's still too early to assess the true impact of the changes that have been made. It will take some time for long-time users to change their habits, and the new users haven't arrived yet.
Comparing this first week of V3 to the site's golden age also seems completely irrelevant to me. We shouldn't expect the site redesign to work like magic. It had certainly become necessary, but there's no guarantee, at this point, that it will be enough. The site's success doesn't rest solely on kinoute's work—tremendous as it is. The community must also contribute. This will require, in particular, some effort on the part of long-time members to adapt. But in my opinion, this site is well worth it.
@Maxi You are comparing two very different periods, back in the days we had 10k active users per day, now we have... around 150.
Well, I know, I stated that in my penultimate sentence. I responded to Greymatter's general feeling that there's less activity in the comment sections which obviously didn't change from one week to another. I just added some information if someone's wondering where those high numbers like 121 shouts come from because at first glance, I very rarely see any real talk underneath a shot. It's interesting to see how it breaks down. No offense.
@kinoute I have a request regarding the SotDs (starting from next month): if it were possible to freeze the score at the moment of the announcement, just like it's done for the shots at the end of the contests. Often you see SotDs that have one score in the morning and in the following days the score goes up or (more often) down, and it's not pleasant.
