Velitel lodi Pirx musí řešit konflitky a podezření mezi posádkou, která o experimentu oficiálně neví, ale leccos si domýšlí. Konfliktní situace nakonec vyústí do stavu, kdy lodi a celé posádce hrozí zánik.
