Voting
First of all : congratulations for this new site, it's an enormous improvement compared to the first WTM, in the design and the different features, so many things to see and do everywhere !
Just a nerd question about the possibility of voting on a shot page : are we voting for the shot only, or for the movie itself ?
Should you give a short information about it when the cursor is on the voting stars ?
Would we be able to vote if we haven't found the title of the movie yet ?
And a little something about the moment when we vote, our rating is not appearing directly, we have to move the cursor a little bit to see our rating and the overall one. Mayby it's not a bug, but it's quite disturbing, the first impression is like the system has not recorded our vote.
Edit : two more questions about voting :
- Is that normal that we can vote for our own upload movie in the "new submissions" category ? (any uploader can rate a 10, a good notation to be transferred in the feature films category)
- Some overall ratings are really impressives after the comma : like "1.3333333333334" or "1.66666666666666" ! Is that normal ? :p
Yeah i don't know what that rating is all about.. Difficulty or awesomeness of the shot?
You should also round up the decimal (1 - 1.5 - 2 - 2.5 - ...)
I guess this should be a bug in the bugtracker lepaposaure!
that long decimals are a bug, yes
if you are voting on a shot, you are voting on that single shot, not the movie itsel, so you can even vote if you dont know the solution itself
we might exclude the possibility to vote for your own shots but assuming everyone will vote for their own shot and multiple people will vote for a shot it kinda evens out
Voting simply refers to the awesomeness of the shot. You don't have to know the title, but the blows you away, it's probably a 10.
You are right LePaposaure, we have to show some information (right next to the stars) on how they work.
We should probably use another color for one's own vote, to show that voting was successful.
Second star line is a great idea.. This way there is no mix-up between everybody's rating and your own rating.
By the way is there a list somewhere of "best screenshots by ratings??" i haven't seen it.

I wonder why ? Anyone can vote or see the overall vote for a screenshot. This is not linked to the fact you solve it or not.

(i thought you would also like to see a star system for the movie and not for the screenshot, so you can vote for both the screenshot and the movie, but you're talking about a second line to see your own vote)
yeah, second line sounds good. At first you see only one line to vote.
After you have voted, you see 2 lines, one with the overall vote and one with your own.

- if the "Feature films" screenshots are determined by the rating on the "New submissions" uploads, will you add an information about what is the vote about ? I mean, what is a good or a bad screenshot ? What is the exact definition of the "awesomeness" of a shot ? Is it a very funny or impressive picture, or a significant moment of the movie ?
- Have you already determined the "fixed amount of movie snapshots which are transferred from New Submissions to Feature Films" and what rating they should have ?
As the new submission system based on ratings replaces the first system, based on moderator's objective/subjective judgements, I fear some very good shots will obtain bad votes because they will be considered as "too classic" or not fun enough by the voters how have not seen the movie (only 50 "Feature Film" solves to obtain the access to the "New submissions" category). As you specified the caracteristics of a good snapshot in your first FAQ (crucial point in the film, funny moment, the story, the visual aspect), I think it's necessary to define again what is a good snapshot, espacially for newbies.
- You wrote in the new FAQ that "Executive Producer (rank) is able to protect certain snapshots in the category New Submissions. These snapshots will switch to Feature Films for sure" : will this high rank (53000 WTM bucks) be given to special moderators, for the beginning, and then how many shots maximum are going to be saved per day (I really like this idea of "shot's savers" ! But I would not like the savers could come too late !) ?

Yes, I was thinking about the same problem with the new submissions. Some stills that look meaningless on first sight can be a very crucial point in the film, but you will only get that if you've seen the movie. Else you'd probably give a low rating for this 'meaningless' stills. This way has both adavntages and disadvantages.
Shouldn't be a problem for real well-known movies, but for the less known it will.

We start with a fixed amount with 30 to 40 snapshots per day.. but we can change that any time.

We'll still have moderators "protecting shots". Well, we give the system a try and look how it goes from there. I think it will balance itself. At the start a lot of people will be confused on how to rate, etc, but I believe that's a temporary thing. New Submissions won't be accessable for everyone.. we decided to open it only for people who have been with the platform a little longer (50 feature film solves)

I remember discussions about the number of shots per day, and it was difficult to find the perfect threshold to gain new players and keep the old ones, entertain the hardcore viewers and offer a good challenge for young movie-fans.
But I also observed that many people have just few minutes per day to solve new shots, plus few more minutes to find and try again to solve older shots. And I'm not talking about uploading, and the new parts of the site, movie reviews, votes,...
So, for a good participation of the major part of members in the whole site, 30 to 40 shots per day seems a huge number, I think 20 shots max would be better for everyone.
