Suggestions for contest themes
If you wish to suggest themes for our future contests, you are welcome to do so in this thread.
Please be aware that there is no guarantee that your suggestions will actually result in a contest.
The following themes are the “leftovers” of last year's selection:
- Underwear: What people wear under their clothes, in the everyday life, nowadays, in the past or in the future. | No swimsuit, no bikini, no negligee, no nudity (no woman wearing only panties and no bra).
- Handheld Light Sources: Candles, torches, flashlights, flares, ... as long as they are producing light and are being held by someone's hand. | Not wanted: flashlights turned off, portable light sources currently not being held.
- Let's Dance: Dancing movement alone by pairs or in number. Ballet, jazz, tribal, hip hop, torrid tango or graceful waltz, indoor, outdoor, on stage, everywhere. | No dancers at rest, nor dance equipment.
- Hairstyles: Interesting, strange, characteristic hairstyles of men and women. | No individual hairs, no strands cut off, no chest hair.
- Sailboats: Sailboats and sailing ships, sailboards, sailing competitions. | No motorboat (speedboat, powered yacht).
- Sunsets/Sunrises/Twilight: Dusk or dawn, the sun doesn't have to be visible, but it must be clear enough that daytime is about to end/start. | No extraterrestrial skies/sunsets/sunrises, no moon.
- Green: Shots with lots of green or clearly focused on something green. | No shots with only a minor green part.
- Home Sweet Home: Houses, castles, apartment blocks, ... any residential building seen from the outside. | No hotels.
- Scope the World: Optical Stuff like Telescopes, Binoculars, Microscopes, Rifle Scopes, Magnifiers, Periscopes or also Night Vision Equipment. The item must be completely & clearly visible. Both real and fictional stuff are OK. | Shots showing only parts of the device are not allowed, nor is the view through it.
- Red: Prominently red shots. | Avoid pink or orange, or shots with only a minor red part. They should be included as options on the next poll.

Here's a little feedback…
My opinion on some of them:
- Black and White: This was deemed too broad at one time. But since we had "color" contests, it kind of makes sense now.
- Playing Games: Please specify what you're thinking about.
- Split diopter lens shots: Way too specific, IMHO. This would result in very few uploads.

- Cemeteries & Graves
TV Movie: This would need specific site developments, just like for TV Series. Also, I’m not sure it would result in many uploads.
Already done:
- Splitscreens & Crossfades: Already done as "Montage Effects", being partially redone as "Split Screens".
- Animals: Already done. Could be included in a “sequel” poll (to choose which past contest could have a new edition).
It's already hard to solve a shot from an obscure Ukrainian movie, I cannot imagine the same but for TV movies instead.
I like:
- Hats, Caps, Helmets: easy to find shots, most of them will be character shots, which could be accessible to everyone in terms of solving. Plus, shots could be assigned later to characters
- Beach: easy to find shots
- Let's Dance
- Home Sweet Home
There is another contest that will be organized by Solhanne for winning the Snapshot of the Year 2020 called "The Naked Torso" (Men, Women, Statues, Paintings, Photographs etc. Anything goes as long as the naked torso is a big part of the shot). But I don't know when it will be announced.
