Sita Sings the Blues (2008)

The Greatest Story Ever Sung — Written by alphaaline on 22.07.2012

A funny movie, dramatic and musical ... This is the story of Nina Paley, the filmmaker who draws a paralell between her life and the life of the Indian goddess Sita. Why? Simply because Nina Paley destroyed by a sentimental break makes the link between the history of Shah Sita, woman abused by Sanyal Rama, two figures of the Indian mythological story with her own.
She mixes different style of animation, illustration and drawings. A tale of melodies rythmed by the jazz singer Annette Hanshaw (1930).
The Ramayana is evoked all along the film. Between Indian legends and contemporary life, Nina Paley presents here a masterpiece of animation. This film is fully licensed Creative common.
