The film starts at the point where Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) finds himself in a world where only zombies exist besides him. The zombieland was originated by the fact that the mad-cow disease spread to men.
Columbus tells he is the only survivor because he complies with some rules he stated. One of the rules is rule #1: Cardio. You have to be fit to avoid zombies. After the introduction of some other (some are farfetched) rules Columbus is on his way to travel to Columbus where he hopes to finds his parents.
When Columbus crashed his car he walks over the highway when he meets Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson). This macho-man/cowboy travels eastwards just like Columbus. Because of the obsession for Twinkies they stop at an ‘abandoned’ supermarket. After killing some zombies they meet sisters Wichita and Little Rock. These girls fool around with the two ‘guys’ and steel both their guns and car and drive away.
Not long after the girls have driven away they have a car breakdown. Columbus and Tallahassee found a new car in the meantime. The four reunite and try to avoid zombies. They head to Pacific Playland (the sisters need to go there because it is ‘zombie-free’). The end of the movie is quite predictable but I won’t mention it in the review for people who want to see the movie.
Overall I think it’s an amusing movie. Because there are zombies in the movie it’s tagged as horror but actually it’s more a comedy. Bill Murray plays also a small role in the movie where in a hilarious scene the [Ghost Busters] are parodied. When you know the movie [Shaun of the Dead] you can expect more or less the same concept. Unless this sort of ‘stolen’ concept the movie is funny and not too cliché. In the end the movie deserves a grading of 8 out of 10 points.
