The movie starts off with a fast paced boxing fight.
Among the two fighters stands award winner Russel Crowe taking up the role as legendary boxer James 'jimmy' braddock. and as his coach Joe, played by award winner Paul Giamatti.
Quite early in the film, something bad happens. Braddock get's injured and loses a fight. Everyone seems to be dissapointed in him and he loses his job as a boxer.
One of the strong points of this movie is that the emphasis not on boxing, but on how his environment responds to it.
It's heartbreaking to see an honest man trying to get by and take care of his family in difficult times, even more when his wife (played by Renée Zellweger) is always behind him and supports him through thick and through thin, to see that, even when they have financial problems, they refuse to solve this through theft and crime, though, amongst these things, still manages to inspire a nation.
It has been some time since a movie touched me like this, made me sweat during fighting sequences and made me write a review.
To all that prefer brilliant acting, a touching story and intense fighting sequences, i have to encourage you to see this.
To all that prefer popcorn action flick with barely a story, i recommend not to watch this.
