I think "Looking for Eric" is an absolute gem, a charming comedy-drama that totally captured my heart. Feel good fare of the highest quality, and the working class folk the film depicts are bloody marvelous. Not that I ever thought of them as working class folk - more like first class folk; the salt-of-the-earth.
Steve Levets serves up an unforgettable performance as Eric, and the great football legend, Eric Cantona, plays himself. He's a warm, funny presence and totally lovable.
I loved "Looking for Eric", and warmly recommend it. God, I wish there were more movies of this quality around. The "show not tell" feel of the movie allowed there to be many surprises and events that just happen all of a sudden.
It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it left me with a big sloppy, happy grin on my face.
Now excuse, but I'm off to light up a huge spliff and summon up the spirit of Eric Cantona - maybe he has a few life lessons for me.
Don't miss this film.
