300 (2006)

This is Sparta — Written by deleted user on 06.08.2010

It is 480 B.C. The biggest army that has been seen in the antique world under the leadership of king Xerxes moves to defeat Greece. In defense of independence stands the Spartan king Leonidas with 300 bravest warriors. They start fighting in ravine Thermopylae.

When I saw the announcement of "300" I decided to see it. It is not only about the most fantastic battle and the courage, but most of all it made on the basis of the comic by Frank Miller. I was not disappointed. The film is fantastic. Lightly dark atmosphere, love, pathos and blood. Much blood should not be a surprise as the comics by Frank Miller, just like films based on them (vide Sin City) are full of brutal scenes and the element of grotesque which in "300" is represented by the Persians. The best example of it is the appearance of the elite guards of Xerxes: the warriors seem like the ninja and Arabian soldiers. The Spartans, on the other hand, are depicted as the opposition of the Persians - well built, honorable and natural. No redundant decorations or strange elements.

Zack Snyder, the director of the film, has made so far a fantastic remake of George A. Romeo's horror "Dawn of the Dead" (2004). The music was created by Tyler Bates. One must say that he made it in a splendid way as the music introduces itself into the film. The make-up staff must be appreciated as well as the characters look very well, especially the Persian warriors. The actors made a fantastic work - each of the played his role in a great way which added to the realism of the film.

Summing up, "300" film is a masterpiece which must be seen by all cinema fans. I heartily recommend.
